Important Facts about High Density Plantation scheme in J&K

Introduction

High Density Plantation scheme was launched by JK Union Territory Government in collaboration with National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. (NAFED). The scheme has been launched for High Density Plantation of Apple, Walnut, Almond, Cherry, Mango, Litchi, Olive  etc. The  scheme  shall  remain effective from March 2021 to March 2026. Qualifying orchard area for high density plantation

A minimum of 1 kanal and maximum of 20 kanals of land will be covered per beneficiary under this scheme. However, priority will be given to the orchardists with less than 04 kanals of land

Duration

The scheme shall remain effective for five years w.e.f. March 2021 to March 2026

Funding pattern of high density plantation

The funding pattern under the scheme will be 50 : 50 ratio between the government and the farmer.

Financing Pattern of high density plantation

  • 50 % subsidy / assistance of the project cost (maximum upto 22.15 lacs per hectare for apple orchard)
  • 10 % Beneficiary
  • 40 % Banks (optional) Capitalization of interest for 3 years and repayment in yearly installments from 4th year  onwards.

Role and responsibilities of Stakeholders

UT Government

  • Director Horticulture Kashmir/Jammu shall identify beneficiaries and provide the list to NAFED / Private Enterprise and Financial Institution (Bank-in case loan is availed).
  • CHO concerned will provide list of varieties and specification to NAFED/ Private Enterprise with a copy to Bank
  • Provide Technical Specification of Trellis system and Drip Irrigation System to NAFED / Private Enterprise with copy to Bank
  • Obtain status/feedback from the farmer, private enterprise and Bank
  • Provide  necessary  technical  guidance, information and awareness to the farmers/beneficiaries
  • Supervise operations / implementation and obtain project status
  • To notify the varieties of apple and other fruits/ country of origin for High Density Plantation
  • To nominate member(s) in the JIT
  • To facilitate the joint inspection immediately
  • Release the subsidy directly to beneficiary in case the orchardist does not opt for loan
  • Concern CHO shall verify the land offered by the beneficiary to the effect whether it is suitable for HDP or not.
